TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces it will begin accepting applications today for the Toyota Choreography Award 2010. The award program, conducted in collaboration with the Setagaya Public Theatre, is part of TMC's social contribution activities in support of art and culture. The 2010 award is the seventh in the program, which was launched in 2001 to discover and nurture the next generation of choreographers.
Choreographers who are citizens or residents of Japan or whose activities are based in Japan, and who have presented an original work of choreography are eligible to apply. There are no restrictions regarding the genre of work. Applications close January 15, 2010 and must be postmarked that date or earlier.
The award selection committee consists of theater producers from around Japan and guest judges Akira Shirai (director and actor), Tabaimo (modern artist), Keiko Harada (composer), and Hideo Furukawa (writer).
From the applicants, the committee will choose six finalists, from which a "Next Age Choreographer Award" winner will be selected at the "Nextage"1 final selection on July 19, 2010, along with one "Audience Prize" winner.
The winner of the "Next Age Choreographer Award" will perform at Setagaya Public Theatre's Theatre Tram space in 20112, with TMC providing 2 million yen to help cover production costs.
