His Highness Sheikh Khalid, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah Offers Environmental Commitment at the Clinton Global Climate InitiativeNotizia pubblicata in rete il 25/09/2009 01:10, tempo medio di lettura previsto 2 minuti e 48 secondiNEW YORK, September 25 /PRNewswire/ -- - Formation of a new Non-Profit Organization focused on a Sustainable Future for the Middle East At the Clinton Global Climate Initiative His Highness Sheikh Khalid will commit to forming a new non-profit organization to foster green technology innovation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy approaches for the Middle East. The Middle East is not immune from changes in the world economy and environment. Opportunities exist to embrace green technology innovation to solve water problems and create renewable energy projects. The opportunities also offer new jobs and areas of economic growth for the benefit of the peoples and diverse cultures of the Middle East. This new non-profit organization, THE MIDDLE EAST SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP (www.tmesp.org) will: - Develop partnership opportunities for sustainability between national and sub-national governments in the Middle East. - Bring together leading green technology innovators, environmental experts and renewable energy developers to guide leaders in the Middle East in developing a sustainable future. - Assist with identifying project opportunities that will attract investment and provide economic growth. - Work with other organizations both internationally and in the region to foster collaboration for sustainability. - Be a resource for learning more about how to invest, develop, and encourage sustainability in the Middle East. As part of his commitment, His Highness Sheikh Khalid will convene an initial meeting of green technology leaders and innovators later this year to help guide the efforts of THE MIDDLE EAST SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP. His Highness Sheikh Khalid is a leading voice for the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. He has proposed a "A Pledge For Progress" that calls for (1) Building an economy to serve the people and not just the powerful; (2) Pursuing energy independence; (3) Preserving Sovereignty; (4) Increasing educational opportunities for the next generation; (5) Promoting the rule of law, including respect for intellectual property and (6) Encouraging greater popular participation in government. The establishment of the non-profit, THE MIDDLE EAST SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP, is another example of His Highness Sheikh Khalid's leading voice as Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah as His Highness is a leader who puts the interests of his people above the interests of power. Ras Al Khaimah is located in an important area that historically has been one of the world's centers of commerce. Ras Al Khaimah is the closest emirate to the main shipping lane between the Gulf and all of the northern markets such as Iran, Pakistan, India, China, and beyond. Ras Al Khaimah has prospered from the movement of goods and trade as well as revenue from oil and natural gas reserves and must look more to the future. Ras Al Khaimah needs to transition into a new energy economy that emphasizes renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency.
